How to use VDW.ULTRA®

  1. Localising orifices with CAVI: With diamond-coated CAVI tips, dentine overhangs can be removed, a straight-line canal access can be prepared and calcified, hidden orifices can be located. It is recommended to continuously remove the dental debris which accumulates.
  2. Ultrasonic irrigation using IRRI S: Microstreaming caused by ultrasonic tip oscillation moves the irrigant into lateral canals, isthmi and ramifications – areas which are hard to reach by mechanical preparation alone. In addition, the resulting heat amplifies the tissue dissolving properties of NaOCl and biofilm is successfully removed. Specially designed instruments such as the fine IRRI S tip help to prevent unwanted dentine removal during ultrasonic irrigation. The solution soon appears cloudy due to tissue dissolving.
  3. Preparing deeper structures with CAVI: The diamond-coated swan-neck CAVI tip is suitable for preparing deeper structures and isthmi. This video shows the preparation of the mesiobuccal canal at the curvature approximately 3 mm before the apex. When working with the CAVI setting, less debris will be produced due to the reduced power level.
  4. Orifice preparation using CAVI: Access preparation of an obliterated canal next to the isthmus with the help of a diamond-coated CAVI tip.
  5. Pulp stone removal with CAVI: The coronal pulp stone is encircled and removed with a diamond-coated CAVI tip at maximum power. The underlying canal orifices can thus be exposed.
  6. Removing obturation material using CAVI: The cement around the post is being loosened and the post can be dislodged. Obturation material such as gutta-percha can be removed with the same tip or with a fine REDO tip.
  7. Unscrewing threaded posts with REDO: After loosening the cement with a non-diamond-coated REDO or MAXI tip at high power, the threaded post is being unscrewed. The way the post is moving freely indicates that high power is being used.
  8. Removing fractured instruments with REDO: With the help of a small REDO tip, fractured instruments can be successfully removed. Here the instrument which has been removed comes out of the canal, falls into another canal and has to be removed again. This can be avoided by covering the other canals.
