For the first penetration of root canals fine instruments must negotiate resistances and curvatures without jamming or bending. VDW’s C-Pilot files manage these difficulties. They are thermically hardened for increased stiffness and available in the small sizes 006 – 015. C-Pilot files are particularly suited to produce a glide path for rotary NiTi files, no matter which NiTi system.

The Mtwo® NiTi system sets new standards in root canal preparation with its concept to shape the canal walls to full length with each one of only four files used as a standard sequence for all type of canal anatomy. Already after the second file an ISO 30 irrigation cannula can advance until 3 mm to the apex what is of great importance for an effective infection elimination.

VDW.SILVER is a user-friendly designed endo motor, comfortable and safe. VDW.GOLD features comprehensive programming for all important NiTi systems and integrated electronic length determination.

Raypex®5 is a top selling apex locator featuring highest accuracy. The unique Apex Zoom increases safety in the apical preparation. The exact file position facilitates endodontic treatment.

BeeFill®2in1combines the warm guttapercha-techniques ‘downpack’ and ‘backfill’ in one unit for a fast, clean and longlasting 3-dimensionally tight obturation. The ergonomic device was designed for intuitive operation.

For the postendodontic restoration DT Light®SL is the state-of-the-art quartz fibre post. Their Double Taper design provides optimal fit to the canal morphology prepared by the most widely used endodontic techniques and allows a minimally invasive treatment. DT Light®SL posts are industrially preconditioned with silane and silicate, and coated with a protective polymer layer preventing contamination and deactivation prior to placing the post: Safety Lock® technology for long-lasting adhesion and shorter procedure.

VDW's motto Endo Easy Efficient® means reproducible, good results with significantly less treatment time combined with a good long-term prognosis, both medically and economicially.

VDW took up the recommendation of numerous users and combined the two individual components for Downpack and Backfill into a professional device: BeeFillTM2in1 for the 3-dimensional filling of root canals with the Continuous Wave method or the proven technology according to Herbert Schilder.

The ergonomic device was designed for intuitive operation. Temperature and flow rate of the guttapercha material as well as temperature of the Plugger can be individually adjusted simply and fast, i.e. with short response time. The micromotor-controlled extrusion prevents dripping of guttapercha. Slim hand pieces and specially long, flexible cannulas permit clear view on the root canal orifice. The complete exchange of used-up cartridges makes the handling clean and fast. Each cartridge contains guttapercha for filling 4 - 6 root canals. For the downpack hand piece an assortment of Pluggers as well as a Pulp Tester are included.

These days almost all dentists perform root canal treatments. Comparatively few dentists have specialised in Endodontics and for most General Dentists the number of Endodontic treatments carried out is fairly low. However, the number of dentists focussing on Endodontics and investing in further education and specialized equipment is continually growing. There is a good reason for this: an informed patient will usually choose tooth conservation as opposed to replacement of teeth, neither of which comes for free. If he has the choice, he will almost always decide to keep his own teeth. This makes Endodontics financially interesting for every dental practice, because an Endodontic treatment including restoration with a modern fibre post and a direct crown build-up count for pure personal earnings, no profit is handed over to the laboratory.

I, myself, am a dentist, having studied in Germany and in the USA. There has been a huge development in the field of Endodontics since I studied. Technological advancements which have been available for some time, such as rotary preparation with NiTi instruments or electronic length determination have made a worldwide break-through. Endodontics is in fact one of the most innovative segments in dentistry. The most important reason for this is the huge increase in demand that made expensive investments in the development of highly technical products viable for the Industry. This makes possible a product offering which the dentist can include in his standard procedures and which reduces his treatment time whilst also allowing reproducible results better than with previous methods.

Close observations reveal both the ever-changing needs of the dental practice, which cover the whole spectrum of dentistry, as well as the tendency towards a strongly increasing readiness to specialise. Together with a team of highly qualified employees and consultant Endodontists, I'm working on developing new treatment concepts and suitable products which fulfil the expectations of both of these important target groups. The patient should equally benefit from this in the form of higher quality care with less stress during the treatment. Not only do satisfied patients gladly come back, they also recommend their dentist to others based on good personal experience.

After qualifying as a dentist, I completed a degree in Business Management in England. The financial components of the treatment concepts are therefore just as significant for me as the dental aspects are.

The VDW.GOLD endomotor has a modern design, well-thought out functions and intuitive menu guidance. An integrated apex locator makes simultaneous preparation and length determination possible. Length determination is accurate in both humid and dry canal conditions. Individual settings for all major file systems are pre-programmed and can also be changed and saved, allowing the utmost flexibility.

The needs of the dentist, that is practical functions and simple operation, were the focus when developing this device. Safety features such as torque control, acoustic signals and automatic stop / reverse etc. are naturally included. An additional programme for canals with difficult anatomy offers increased protection against instrument separation.

Battery operation makes the device practical and independent of mains supply. The device can even be used while the battery is charging. VDW.GOLD will be presented for the first time at the IDS 2007.

In cooperation with the Technical College (RWTH) in Aachen, Germany, VDW has developed a special coating material for fiber posts which not only improves the adhesion between post and cement but also spares the dentist the chair-side conditioning of the post. DT Light SL fiber posts are industrially preconditioned with silane and silicate, and coated with a protective polymer layer preventing contamination and deactivation prior to placing the post. DT Light SL Quartz Fiber Posts are avalaible in 4 sizes. They are translucent and radiopaque. They come in hygienic blister packs accompanied by extensive directions for use. The convenient BasicKit including 18 posts and adequate drills will help new users to switch over. For the launch period DT Light SL Kits are offered with return privilege.

The new Mtwo direct contra-angle was specially designed for an uncomplicated start in root canal preparation with rotary NiTi instruments.

Developed for using the Mtwo NiTi system it simplifies instrument handling and makes the dentist feel safer from the very beginning. The right setting for each instrument follows exactly the arrangement of the files in the box. On reaching the torque limit, Mtwo direct automatically starts a 90° retro-rotation in order to prevent the file from overload.

Mtwo direct is a 115:1 contra-angle and attaches directly to all dental units with ISO E connection. An additional device or foot control is not necessary. All Mtwo instrument settings a directly marked on the contra-angle and one by one, following the instrument sequence they can simply be selected by turning the ring. There is no need to refer to a torque card as it is usual with most NiTi hand pieces.

DT Light Post®, aesthetic quartz fiber posts, are used with dual cure adhesive bonding material. They help conserve tooth substance and provide durable and reproducible clinical results. Their consistency and elasticity are close to dentin. They evenly distribute the functional load in the canal, minimizing the risk of root fractures.

Upon request of many dentists the range of sizes was now completed by an extra small # 0 with a diameter of 0.8mm at the tip and 1.25mm at the end. All DT Light Posts are now marked with a color coded O-ring for easy size identification.

For easy retraction in the case of revision the system was now completed by a DT Post removal kit. The post can be removed in 3 easy steps. The procedure is fast, easy and safe. The kit is made of 2 drills and a pictured instruction, guiding the dentist to a successful post removal. The kit is designed for both DT Light Posts and DT White Posts.

Mtwo NiTi Instruments are particularly flexible and efficient due to their S-shaped cross-section and two efficient cutting blades. The distance between the cutting blades increases from the tip toward the shaft providing large space for dentin removal. This innovative design reduces to a minimum the adverse screwing effect. Two active cutting edges are extremely efficient and cause only little friction. This makes Mtwo instruments very fracture resistant.

Mtwo is a minimally invasive NiTi system with only one sequence based on traditional hand preparation, providing excellent results necessitating not more than four instruments.

Irrespective of the canal shape only one standard sequence is necessary. Additional instruments are available for shaping root canals according to different filling techniques (e.g. vertical condensation).

Mtwo applies the „Single Length“ technique; that is, from the beginning of the treatment the dentist already uses the first file to full working length. This corresponds to the traditional hand preparation method. The dentist, as well as the assistant, will have less difficulties to switch from hand instrumentation to rotary NiTi preparation. A new technique like crown-down does not need to be learned.

VDW’s new apex locator Raypex 5 works with the latest digital technology. Its hinged front panel with a colour display features a unique and user-friendly representation of the root canal.

File movement can be followed live along the entire length of the root canal. As soon as the file tip reaches the apical third, the display automatically switches into the Apex Zoom Mode showing a close-up of the apical constriction and the foramen apicale. This helps the dentist to visualize file movement in this section and makes length determination reliable.

The measuring accuracy achieved by Raypex 5 has been increased compared to other apex locators by empirically calibrating the display on more than 300 root canals. This virtually excludes over-instrumentation. The in-vitro study confirms a measuring accuracy of more than 95 %.

The Raypex 5 apex locator has a Demo Mode to assist the dentist in informing the patients why electronic length determination is necessary and how it works.

An integrated PC interface allows Raypex 5 to be connected to an external PC monitor, allowing the patients to follow the measuring process on a large screen.

The courses contain both theory and practical. The concept is explained in detail and demonstrated by the speaker. Each participant is equipped with the necessary technical equipment and material. Plastic training blocks are supplied and participants are requested to bring extracted teeth with prepared access cavity with them.

The courses fee includes FlexMaster_® instruments, a FlexMaster_®system box and an Interim-Stand for the practical part. Drinks and snacks are also included. The course is limited to 15 participants.

The FlexMaster_® IntroFile comes in one single size: ISO 022 at the tip, 11% taper, 19 mm working length and 9 mm active working part. It can replace several sizes of the commonly used Gates or Peeso enlargers. Due to its strong taper and the special shape of its cutting blades IntroFile is highly efficient. IntroFile provides conical access to the coronal part of the root canal and is, therefore, ideal for the first step in the preparation of a root canal with rotating or hand instruments.

With its 3E concept - Endo Easy Efficient - VDW has laid out a product-oriented Endodontic procedural roadmap as a guide to those products which are Easy to use, give excellent predictable clinical results and thus significantly facilitate an Efficient and successful Endodontic treatment. Root canal fillings must provide long-term hermetic sealing of the entire root canal system to prevent penetration of liquids and micro-organismes from the apical and/or coronal region into the canal.

2Seal is a root canal filling material on Epoxid-Amin-Polymer-Base, consisting of two different pastes: Paste A and Paste B. Its perfect viscosity allows fast and simple use.

As it needs 4 hours for hardening time intensive root canal filling techniques, like lateral condensation, can be used. X-ray control imaging and corrections can be made during hardening. Furthermore, 2Seal features high radiopacity.

2Seal is biocompatible and has a minimal shrinking and solubility rate. As a matter of fact, being in contact with body fluids the tightness of soluble filling materials can be affected over the years, thus making room for bacteria to settle in the canal. 2Seal is recommended for all root canal preparation techniques.

E-Master™ is the new, high-performance micro-motor designed for the FlexMaster® NiTi file system. State-of-the-art micro-chip technology means that the electronics fit in a remote control sized housing. E-Master™ does not take up much space, it is lightweight and can be moved from one treatment room to the other and connected easily. Its convenient fixing device allows easy integration in any dental unit.

Digital torque control provides safe use of the E-Master™. Every FlexMaster_® file has an individual torque control setting. When the file reaches its torque limit the auto-reverse function starts automatically, and when the file is stuck in the canal the motor alternates rotation to free the instrument. A direction indicator which lights up green or red is integrated in the motor. When the file rotates normally in a clockwise direction the indicator is green, when rotation is reversed and when the torque limit is reached (>75% of the pre-programmed torque value) the indicator is red.

The operation of E-Master™ is just as clear and simple as the FlexMaster® system. Selection of sequences and files follows the logical arrangement displayed on the FlexMaster® System Box. In order to avoid errors and to facilitate everyday use in the practice, the selected file is indicated by an LED diode on the display. Fast access enlargement with the new FlexMaster® IntroFile or with Gates, as well as a function for Guttapercha revisions, is also pre-progammed. Any 1:1 contra-angle can be used, calibrated and tested for efficiency with the E-Master™. A port on the control unit allows easy updates. E-Master™ is a basic device designed to receive other future modules.

FileCare_® EDTA is a chelator providing effective cleaning and easy shaping of the root canal during preparation with steel and NiTi instruments. The gel removes smear layer and dilates dentin tubules, hence penetration of endodontic medication and adhesion of filling materials to the walls are improved.

FileCare_® EDTA also works as a lubricant, reducing friction on the instrument and pre-softening the dentin. In calcified canals, FileCare_® EDTA reacts with the calcium salts, facilitating the advancement of the instruments. The bubbling effect caused when FileCare_® EDTA comes into contact with NaOCl flushes out pulp tissue and dentinal debris. Convenient syringes make the product very simple to use. Put some FileCare_® EDTA on to a dappen dish, pick up some FileCare_® EDTA with an endodontic instrument and introduce it into the canal.

Because of its outstanding properties FileCare_® EDTA has been selected as one of our innovative products to be awarded with the VDW quality seal "Endo Easy Efficient".
